Fibreglass - An Engineering Material of Choice

Features & Benefits

Fibreglass composites are technically "fibreglass reinforced polymers" utilising the structural properties of glass fibres combined in a complex polymer matrix of polyester, vinylester or epoxy resins.

Why Use Fibreglass?

Some unique features and benefits of the fibreglass composite material include:

  • Non conductive: fibreglass is extremely safe as it cannot conduct electricity in a normal working environment.
  • High Strength/Weight: fibreglass is light weight with a high strength to weight ratio. This is beneficial in OH&S lifting implications, while high strength is maintained.
  • Non reactive: fibreglass does not corrode. Products manufactured by fibreglass engineering industries over twenty years ago are still in use today. This is particularly relevant in coastal installations where humidity and salt air environments can be extremely damaging to other materials
  • Excellent Chemical Resistance: correct resin selection provides resistance to most chemicals including acids and alkalis.
  • Flexible design shape: fibreglass is aesthetically appealing material where designs can incorporate curves and radii which are not possible in fabricated metal parts.
